Kendall AV Impulse Foot Pump
The AV Impulse Foot Pump is designed to artifically stimulate the venous plantar plexus (large vein located in the foot) to increase blood circulation in bed-ridden patients. Unlike the Kendall 5325 and 6325 and Jobst 7500 sequential compression machines, which stimulate the blood by compression on the calves or thighs of the patients, the Impulse uses a foot sleeve with a rigid base which fills with air and then deflates in a programmed cycle, simulating the blood flow which results from walking. Like the SCD machines, the Impulse is used to reduce the effects of DVT (deep vein thrombosis), reduce pain and swelling after surgery, and stimulate arterial blood flow.

An earlier version of the AV Impulse system, the AV 5000 features independent channel controls on the left and right, with three-position pressure knob on each side, individual alarms on both sides, and two rocker switches for alarm reset and duration (short cycle or normal). Red hose for the left foot, blue hose for the right; the multi-colored air hose was later dropped in favor of one blue hose which could be used for either side. Uses the same foot pads (called ImPads) as later versions of the Impulse. |
| All knobs have been replaced on the newer 6060 by push buttons which control the backlit LCD menu display. Three pressure presets on each side and cycle length are accessed through push button, and then manipulated using plus and minus buttons. The display constantly monitors the current pressure in mmHg, cycle time and has a graphic display which indicates the current inflation conditions. Uses the same air hose on each side, and the same left and right Impads for inflation as the earlier 5000 model. |
