Wound Care Therapy units are mattress and control module units which provide bed-ridden patients a pressure-controlled surface which promotes tissue integrity and capillary circulation, and help prevent pressure ulcers, commonly known as bed sores. Available units include the Bazooka Bed, the NatureSleep-Aire and Conforma-Aire Mattress systems, and the Aire-2000 and Aire-4000 External Air Control Units

NatureSleep-Aire System (AIRE-NATURE)
The NatureSleep-Aire (also known as the NatureSleep Aire 1000) is a powered mattress system which contains seven individual air compartments, connected to and controlled by a computerized pressure control unit which is built into the mattress itself. A control panel on the side of the mattress allows the user to control the amount of pressure fed into the individual compartments, and a quick release panel on the unit allows rapid deflation in the event CPR becomes necessary (CPR requires a hard, flat surface, and is difficult to perform on an air-filled mattress). The entire system of air pockets and controller unit is enclosed in a zippered vinyl cover. The Nature-Aire, unlike the other available Wound Therapy Units, also requires the use of a single-patient-use disposable 4" thick foam pad (Item code # NATURESLEEP), which is placed on the surface of the NatureSleep air pockets, but inside the zippered vinyl cover.
The NatureSleep-Aire can also be used in conjunction with the Aire-2000 or Aire-4000 External Control Units. By attaching one of the control modules to the mattress, the internal controller in the NatureSleep is bypassed, and pressure is then maintained by use of the programming controls on the external unit. The theory behind this concept is that when the patient first begins wound therapy, they may require a more sophisticated level of pressure control, and could therefore use the mattress with the external control unit; later in therapy, after some healing has taken place, the control module can then be removed and the pressure can be controlled by the internal control unit. The cost of the controller units and Medicare compensation during long wound care therapy can also be a consideration in when to downgrade to the mattress-only system. Weight: 24 pounds.

Conforma-Aire
System |
Like the NatureSleep-Aire, the Conforma is a mattress system which contains an internal pressure control unit which can be disconnected and attached to either the Aire-2000 or Aire-4000 external controller module. Unlike the NatureSleep, no single-use disposable foam pad is required for use with the Conforma. The Conforma consists of 18 individual air cells which can be configured (with the external controller) into up to six different pressure zones. The individual cells are enclosed by a zippered royal blue vinyl cover. The Conforma also features a control panel with pressure regulator knob on the side of the mattress, and a quick-release panel for CPR. Weight: 32 pounds.
