Elan Pharma Enteral Devices

Elan Pharma (formerly Knight Medical) enteral pumps are light, pole-mounted rotary peristaltic volumetric devices, similar to the earlier model Sherwood Kangaroo pumps. Available from Medical Specialties are the KM-60,KM-70, KM-80, and KM-85 models. Newer versions of these pumps are called the EP-60, EP-70, EP-80, and EP-85, since Knight Medical changed their name to Elan Pharma.   Elan Pharma then sold the enteral product line to Minneapolis-based Nutrition Medical, who manufactured the same pumps under the models numbers NM-60, NM-70,  NM-80,  and NM-85.  Nutrition Medical then sold the product line to Zevex, which discontinued all models in favor of  the Zevex EZ pump, which looks and functions exactly like the model 85, except that it only accepts dedicated administration sets made by Zevex (all other models can use a broad variety of generic enteral sets).

The KM-60 and KM-70 pumps are identical, except for the incorporation of a Dose Limit feature on the KM-70. The KM-80 includes in its features a non-volatile memory (some of the later KM-70’s also have memory) which maintains data values for a week minimum, free-flow detection, and an accumulated dose counter in addition to the normal display volume and dose limit functions. The only difference between the KM-80 and the newer EP-85’s is that the accumulated dose counter, now called the Volu-Check feature, has a separate keypad button on the pump face, and is considerably easier to access. EP-85’s also have a flashy pink keypad.

All four pumps have plastic cases, built-in pole clamps, rate and volume infused LED displays, and can use either Sherwood or Medical Specialties enteral sets, as well as specialized Ross administration sets (see accompanying set lists).
